Reviewers' Comments

“A complete and comprehensive guide to ultrasound physics, one of the most complete I have come across. Very helpful.”—Patricia Quinlan, RDMS, Doody's Book Review Service

Many folks get the opportunity to take the Ultrasound Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) exam more than once. Mention physics to some sonographers and their expression tells you that you might as well have said "quantum mechanics" or "regression analysis." Perhaps this describes you. Certainly, fear of physics is common among registry candidates. So is taking the exam more than once.

For frustrated sonographers who want to put this test behind them, we join thousands of successful candidates and educators in recommending the Ultrasound Physics (SPI) Mock Exam by Cindy Owen, RT, RVT, RDMS.

In it Cindy frequently refers to two of our favorite physics texts, Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation by Wayne Hedrick, David Hykes and Dale Starchman, and Sonography: Principles and Instruments by Frederick Kremkau. Any of them will help you tremendously, especially in combination with the Ultrasound Physics Mock Exam.

How do you know which one will be best for you? Match your learning style and interests with the style, features, and level of difficulty of the book.
