Are the Davies mock exams just like the real ARDMS exams?
The Davies mock examinations are similar to the ARDMS exams in these ways:
> They cover the material on the ARDMS exam content outlines.
> They have the same relative number of questions on each exam topic as the ARDMS exams.
> They contain the same kind of applied-knowledge and image-based questions as the ARDMS exams.
> The questions are formatted similarly to the way they are on the ARDMS exams.
> Follow-up surveys indicate that Davies customers find our mock exams to be quite similar to the ARDMS exams.
> The interactive mock exams replicate the main features of the computerized ARDMS exams, including the exam timer, the pause control, the bookmark/skip feature, the ability to review skipped questions, the randomization of questions, and the manner in which you must answer the questions.
> They automatically analyze your test results by exam topic.
How do the Davies mock exams differ from the ARDMS exams?
The Davies mock exams differ from the ARDMS exams in these ways:
> They provide answers, explanations, references, tutorials, detailed analysis of test results, image libraries, test-taking tips and strategies, contact directory, and other learning resources.
> They allow you to study in Learn Mode, which provides instant feedback on each answer choice together with explanations, references, and tutorials.
> You can browse the Image Library, learn proven test-prep and test-taking strategies, and earn CME credit on demand.
> They allow you to design your own tests and study sessions—by time and by topic—and to focus your efforts on specific exam topics (your weak areas, for instance).
> The user interface looks different than the ARDMS interface but operates in much the same way in order to familiarize you with the computer format and build your confidence.
Is there any value to having the print version of this mock exam?
Yes, there are several advantages:
> You can take and use the book anywhere.
> The question numbers in the book correspond to the question numbers on your test analysis reports so that you can cross-reference items and continue studying away from your computer.
> Studying from different media exercises those neural pathways in different ways and promotes faster learning and greater understanding.
How does the exam timer work?
The timer automatically starts when you begin a test in Test Mode. It appears in the upper right hand corner of the Davies header. Each time you select an answer choice, it displays the number of minutes remaining in your exam.
Should the Davies Exam Timer run out, you still will be able to finish taking your practice test. If the Timer does run out, the countdown display will show negative numbers. When this happens, your actual time used will be greater than your target time in the Results Analysis at the end of the test. Use this information to help better pace yourself while taking an exam.
Why doesn't the timer continuously count down the number of minutes and seconds remaining in my exam?
There are few things that make an already nervous candidate more anxious and less focused than a continuously ticking countdown. We recommend that you don't watch the clock during the actual exam, but rather that you check it periodically to make sure your pace is on target. In both the real exam and this mock exam, you have approximately 1 minute to read, think about, and answer each question. This timer promotes confident, effective self-pacing.
How do I obtain CME credit?
Davies is the CME provider. You can earn continuing medical education (CME) credit at your convenience, whenever and wherever you want. There is no time limit constraining your use of this educational product. For example, you could apply for CME credit three years from now if you don't need credit before then.* You don't have to travel, visit a test center, or otherwise inconvenience yourself. Here's how:
After completing this Interactive Mock Exam activity, go to the Start Page and click Earn CME Credit. Print and fill out the CME application, including the CME quiz, and return it to Davies according to the instructions in the application. We will process your application within 24 hours of receipt, email you a CME certificate for your records, and maintain a CME file for you in our office in the event the ARDMS audits the number of CME hours you have obtained during your three-year CME cycle. You can also upload any CME certificate to your ARDMS bank (Go to ardms.org for more information on CME Banks).
*We recommend, however, that you contact Davies to determine whether there have been updates or changes to the CME activity. Guidelines can and do sometimes change.
What if I don't pass the CME quiz?
Passing criterion is 70% for attempt 1 and (for those who do not pass on the first attempt) 75% for attempts 2 and 3. The applicant may not have more than 3 attempts to pass. If you score less than 70% on your CME quiz, we will let you know so that you can restudy and take the CME quiz again. It's part of the educational experience, and there is no additional charge the first time you miss your passing score.
