RDMS Preparation
ARDMS awards the RDMS credential (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) to sonographers who pass the Ultrasound Sonography Principles and Instrumentation exam and one or more of the following specialty exams:
Abdomen

Obstetrics and Gynecology

Breast

Neurosonology

Fetal Echocardiography
The Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation exam is 2 hours long and consists of approximately 120 questions. We strongly recommend Ultrasound Physics Review (mock exam in book format) and/or the Ultrasound Physics CD-ROM Mock Exam. You should also have one of the standard ultrasound physics texts—Kremkau's Sonography: Principles and Instrumentation 7th edition (the classic text, but also the most technical), Zagzebski's Essentials of Ultrasound Physics (a simple, unified exposition of this topic that is perfect for physics-phobes), or Hedrick et al. Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation 4th Edition (a well and clearly written middle-of-the-road text that we like very much).
Each of the specialty exams is 3 hours in length and contains approximately 170 multiple-choice questions. We recommend that candidates combine a Step 1 review text (Ob/Gyn Sonography: An Illustrated Review for the Obstetrics and Gynecology exam, and Abdominal Ultrasound: How, Why and When for the Abdomen exam) with either or both Step 2 mock exams (CD-ROM and/or book format) for your specialty.
The Davies 1-2-3 Step products cover exactly what you need to know from three angles—knowledge, memory, and application of knowledge—to ensure your best performance on the registry exams. In addition, our products are designed to work together. Each follows and covers in its own step-specific manner the ARDMS exam outlines, and each is cross-referenced to the other. So by design you have exactly what you need, including the means to assess your strengths and weaknesses and then to follow up with further study. There is no need to overwhelm yourself with dozens of books and articles that are not specifically designed to prepare you for these important examinations. Everything is here.

 |
|
The fetal heart is considered to be the most important and difficult part of fetal examination. This practical and emphatically clinical book and the DVD that comes with it enable the reader first to determine whether the heart is normal or not, and then, if not, to diagnose the type of cardiac abnormality. To provide the skills and methodology to do this, the book covers basic anatomy and embryology and explains what to look for, as well as why and how. It also describes associated pathology (e.g. chromosomal abnormalities, syndromes), which the sonographer must know once a cardiac abnormality has been found. Here is what you will find in this powerful combination of book and DVD:

Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation 4th Edition
Like Zagzebski’s Essentials, this fine book is very well-written and easy to understand, but its coverage of UPI topics is broader and more complex. If you want a very thorough text and have neither a fear of physics nor a love of highly technical language, this may be your best choice. Adequately illustrated and well written, it includes a glossary, self-assessment exercises to guide you, and color plates. Mosby. 650 illustrations. 464 pp. | | | | |
